Where We've Been

Mary Kay has been involved in horses since she was 7 years old. She has extensive experience in a variety of horse care aspects and rode competitively for 35+ years in various disciplines including: pony club, hunter shows, endurance/competitive trail riding, eventing (preliminary level) and dressage (2nd level). Although competing as an Amateur, she has had extensive training over the years under various professional and FEI level riders. In addition, she has successfully bred, raised, and trained many very successful performance horses for herself and also for sale.  She has worked with a variety of breeds including, Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Drafts and loves every single personality and nuance that comes along with them. She currently owns 3 horses that she enjoys training and riding.

How we began

After settling full-time in Southwestern Virginia 5 years ago, Mary Kay and Mike purchased Next Venture Farm (named after her beloved home-bred dressage horse “Venture”) in August 2014.  They have been improving the property ever since in an effort  to fulfill their dream of renovating an old farm into a quality horse facility. Mary Kay’s passion for horses and riding is prevalent in her design and layout of the facilities and they have many ideas for the future, including more trails, trail obstacles, cross country jumps and additional boarding fields and options.

Where We're Going

We are excited to extend our facilities, services, and high quality care to horse people who are interested in the same. With Mary Kay’s extensive business background and experience with horses, offering a full-care horse boarding facility seemed a logical step and is a dream come true. We are a no drama barn with a professional, yet casual atmosphere. We welcome all riding levels and look forward to meeting you and your equine partner.
